Over the more than 30 years shooting photos for newspapers, national magazines, corporate publications and private events, I have photographed four U.S. presidents, the first refugees arriving in America from Vietnam, major California wildfires, floods, plane crashes, protests and other "big" news stories.
But what I really love is small town photojournalism. It's these pictures that impact us right where we live. I'm just as proud of my pictures of kids showing animals at the county fair, faces of local ranchers and cowboys, prom queens and the average guy down the street, not to mention the excitment of sports action. These photos are far more rewarding to shoot than the capturing big celebrities and world disasters.
